Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is also an alternative form of healing known as energy work. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen life force, Chi, flows through us. Reiki works with the human energy field.
The body’s energy system, known as chakras, acts as regulators and allows energy to flow freely through our spiritual, emotional and physical being. When we have disease, illness or stress our chakras become out of balance. Reiki puts these chakras back into balance, thus allowing the body to heal itself.
Stress is one of the main causes of energy to be blocked causing all sorts of problems from low back pain to headaches. The use of Reiki can greatly increase the body’s ability to deal the stress, helping to prevent and alleviate disease.
What is a session like?
A Reiki Massage combines Reiki energy work (see write up on Reiki energy) with a true swedish massage. The session begins with Reiki being performed followed by the massage. The Swedish massage is not one of deep pressure since the session begins as energy work to allow the body to relax and “de-stress.”
During the Reiki treatment the client may feel a lot of comforting heat or a gentle vibration. It is not uncommon for a person to drift into a meditative state or even to drift off to “sleep”, waking refreshed and usually pain free. Emotional release may also happen, which is a normal process.
During the massage the therapist does not provide deep, targeted pressure on specific areas but will instead focus on providing more relaxation for the client.
How long is a session?
